In 2021, the Southern Africa Migration Management (SAMM) Project hosted its inaugural Media Training event for journalists, editors, communication officers, and media partners in the SADC and IOC region. The training aimed to emphasize the importance of promoting a positive image of migrants and Persons of Concern (PoC) while recognizing their valuable contributions to development. In the aftermath of this training, a toolkit will be created to assist journalists, media professionals, and communication officers in adopting a balanced approach when reporting on migration.

In line with this objective, the SAMM project is searching for a consultant to develop a SAMM Media toolkit that guides the comprehensive reporting on migration and forcibly displaced populations while maintaining sensitivity to the matter. This strategy is founded on two primary goals:

Strategic Goal 1: "Enhance the policy environment for labor migration throughout the region and improve access to legal and efficient means of labor mobility for (prospective) labor migrants" through the creation of a communications strategy and related activities.

Strategic Goal 2: "Strengthened and well-informed decision-making, along with improved management of mixed migration/movement flows, including enhanced protection for vulnerable migrants and Persons of Concern in the Southern African and Indian Ocean region" through the development of an advocacy strategy and associated materials.
