Why does it matter?

Sound labour relations at the workplace can bring benefits in terms of productivity, reduced conflicts and disputes, improved job satisfaction, and improved decision-making on matters of mutual concern to management and workers.

International labour standards provide the main guiding principles for this curriculum, notably with respect to freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining, but also other instruments designed to facilitate cooperation, communication and conflict management at the workplace.

Translating those principles – and the body of knowledge developed by the ILO through its research – into practices at the workplace in its member States is a key challenge for the ILO’s development cooperation activities. This toolkit is the result of decades of work of the ILO and its training centre in the design and delivery of capacity building activities for workers, employers and government representatives.

What can you find in the toolkit?

A full spectrum of training activities covering the range of industrial relations topic such as collective bargaining, workplace cooperation, grievance handling, negotiation skills. In addition, PowerPoint presentations, quizzes, icebreakers, games that can you can use to deliver up to date and interactive training sessions that will elicit interest from the audience.

 What can I do with the toolkit?

Better design your training activities, rely on well-proven training methodologies, get inspired by what has been used by ILO in the field of industrial relations, get acquaintance with ILO standards. To summarize: ideas and tools to train more people more effectively on industrial relations and therefore promote the Decent Work Agenda.

Making Microfinance Work: e-course for managers

Making Microfinance Work (mmw.itcilo.org) is a management training program that is designed to strengthen microfinance managers’ ability to increase the quality and scale of their institution’s outreach.

The “Making Microfinance Work: e-course for managers” is a first one in the series of e-learning modules, which help managers develop a holistic understanding of the different functions that contribute to successful microfinance operations. It provides tools and guidance that managers can use to improve the strategy, marketing, risk management, organizational architecture, efficiency and productivity of their unit, branch or institution. The package aims at providing the learner with quick and “ready to use” learning pills, which should be “digestible” from anywhere.

As a management course, it provides a holistic overview of the many functions that come together to create a successful microfinance institution and the connections between them. It helps managers identify weaknesses in their current performance as well as strategies for improving that performance. Its holistic approach helps prepare managers for the complexity that comes with their jobs.

This eLearning Module has been developed to provide you with a basic understanding of Social Dialogue - what it is, who is involved, what the benefits are – and give you information on the outcomes reached by the European Social Partners at cross-industry level.

The module has been developed by the ITCILO’s Programme for Employers’ Activities in 2014.

It is based on previous work done by the ITCILO:

  • for the ILO on Social Dialogue and Tripartism; 
  • for the European Social Partners of the Commerce sector Eurocommerce and UNI Europa Commerce in 2013.

Le module a été développé par le Programme des activités pour les employeurs du CIF-OIT en 2014.

Il est fondé sur le travail précédemment réalisé par le CIF–OIT:

  • pour le compte de l’OIT et au sujet du dialogue social et du tripartisme;
  • pour les partenaires sociaux européens qui opèrent dans le secteur du commerce, Eurocommerce et Uni-Europa commerce en 2013.

This eLearning Module has been developed by the Programme for Employers' Activities of the International Training Centre of the ILO in 2011 and revised in 2014.

It is designed to help executives, directors and managers of Employers Organizations (EOs) to build and run their organizations more successfully.

The module follows a step-by-step approach to improving the effectiveness of service provision by EOs. It provides a wealth of practical advice, tools, good practice examples and exercises to accompany EOs in their capacity-building efforts.

It takes approximately one hour and a half to complete the module and the final test.

Le module suit une approche pas à pas pour améliorer l’efficacité des services fournis par les OE. Il apporte de nombreux conseils et outils pratiques, des exemples de bonnes pratiques, ainsi que des exercices pour accompagner les OE dans leurs efforts de renforcement des capacités.
